Bethesda 26 - Llandudno 36

Llandudno proved to be a stronger side than Bethesda on the day as they gained an away victory by 6 tries to 4.

The visitors kept the ball through numerous phases for long periods forcing the home side to make tackle after tackle in the strong cross wind.

Against the run of play, it was Bethesda that took the lead from a scrum in their own half. The backs moved the ball along the three quarter line and fullback Gethin Long’s entry made space for Gwion Emlyn Williams to score in the corner. Long’s conversion attempt was successful.

Bethesda’s second try came from an attack by the visitors deep in the home 22. The Llandudno backs’ efforts to move the ball wide was intercepted by wing Elis Ogwen Jones who ran the length of the field to score between the posts. Long kicked the conversion giving Bethesda a lead of 14 points to nil with merely a quarter of the match gone.

It was inevitable that the pressure from the visitors would pay dividends, and before half, time they had scored 2 converted tries making the score 14 points to 10 at the interval.

After 30 minutes of the second period, Llandudno had a lead of 29 points to 14 having scored 3 tries, 2 of which were converted..

Bethesda made a valiant attempt to gain something from the match and lock Dylan Owen scored an unconverted try.

Llandudno scored another converted try with 5 minutes of the match remaining but it was the home side that had the last word. Centre Vaughan Francis scored a fine try which was converted by Long giving the home side a try bonus point.
