Colwyn Bay 3 - Bethesda 31

Bethesda’s hopes of securing Division 1 status next season took another leap forward with a bonus point victory against the division’s bottom side.

The visitors went ahead early when No 8 Huw Williams crossed for an unconverted try.

The home side came back with a penalty goal after 10 minutes play and that remained Colwyn Bay’s only score.

The greasy conditions made things difficult for the players but Bethesda’s centre, Llion Lloyd, displayed his sidestepping skills when he scored a fine individual try after 12 minutes play.

Fullback Iago Davies converted.

Although Bethesda controlled play 15 minutes passed before the next score. Scrum half, Darren Marc Jones, went over this time and his try was converted by Iago Davies and at the end of the half Bethesda had a 19 points to 3 lead.

The visitors’ superiority continued in the second period. With Bethesda pressing in the home 22 a defensive clearance landed in Iago Davies’ hands. The fullback ran straight towards the corner through a couple of attempted tackles to score an excellent try. Davies converted his own try.

On 11 minutes of the half Bethesda prop, Jack Owens, crossed for his side’s fifth try.

With the victory and the bonus point secured, Bethesda went off the boil but the home side made a valiant attempt to come back into the match but they were no match for the visiting forwards.

Two matches to go then - one away at Llandudno and Ruthin at home in the final match of the season.
