Mold 16 - Bethesda 18

A depleted Bethesda side stood up well against Mold in this away fixture. The home side dominated possession throughout but Bethesda proved to be the most streetwise side. Mold took the lead with a penalty goal after 4 minutes play having put pressure on the visitors straight from the kickoff.

Bethesda standoff, Gethin Long kicked a long penalty goal to bring the scores level after 16 minutes.

Mold persisted with their strong running up the middle but Bethesda stood up well to their attacks. At the end of the first quarter Bethesda prop, Gethin Owen intercepted a pass in his own 22 and ran all to way to the Mold 22 before passing to young wing Elis Ogwen Jones who scored in the corner. The conversion was unsuccessful but Bethesda ended the half 8 points to 3 ahead.

After the interval, Quinterton and Long kicked penalty goals for each side as Mold continued to pressurize the visitors defensive line. Mold came back within 2 points after 15 minutes play with another penalty goal.

Mold's pressure finally paid off after 26 minutes when their forwards rumbled over between the posts to made the conversion an easy one and giving the hosts a 16 points to 11 lead.

With the match drawing towards it's end, Long chipped over the Mold forwards in his own 22 and gathered the ball. He beat two backs and passed to Elis Ogwen Jones who galloped over for his second try and bringing the scores level. Long kicked the conversion and the Bethesda forwards kept the ball tight for the remaining minutes to secure a remarkable victory.
