Bethesda victorious in mud

Bethesda won in the wind and rain by 10 points to 5 against Caernarfon at Dôl Ddafydd.

Both teams are to be congratulated for showing considerable handling skills in such dreadful weather.

Honours were even in the first half - penalty attempts for both sides were unsucessful on a very wet pitch and Caernarfon failed to take advantage of the wind at their backs. The score at the interval was 0 - 0.

Bethesda forwards took complete control in the second half and spent long periods in the visitor's territory. Following a series of attacks Bethesda were awarded a 5 metre scrum after 15 minutes play. Number 8 Rhys Williams picked up from the base and crashed over for Bethesda's only try. Fullback Daniel Pritchard kicked the difficult conversion giving the hosts a 7 point lead.

5 minutes later and against the run of play Caernarfon wing Dylan Gwyn evaded a number of tackles to score a great try but the conversion attempt was short.

Bethesda's forwards exerted more pressure on the visitors and Pritchard kicked a penalty giving the home side a 5 point margin.

Caernarfon's backs tried manfully to snatch the result but it was not a day for running rugby and Bethesda's defence coped well with their attacks.

So Bethesda's 100% home record still stands. It's away to Dolgellau in the North Wales Cup next Saturday.
