Abergele 8 - Bethesda 13

Gêm o ddau hanner gyda’r ddau dîm yn cymeryd eu cyfle i fanteisio ar y gwynt oedd yn chwythu o un gornel i’r llall.

Unwaith eto, roedd Bethesda yn brin o ddau neu dri o’r dewis cyntaf ac roedd pryder ymysg y cefnogwyr y byddai blaenwyr mawr Abergele yn drech na’r Howgets.

Manteisiodd y tîm cartref ar y gwynt yn yr hanner cyntaf a chroesodd y bachwr Woods am gais hawdd wrth i Fethesda fethu ambell i dacl yng nghanol y cae. Methwyd gyda’r trosiad ond 4 munud yn ddiweddarach llwyddodd Abergele i gicio gôl gosb i fynd 8 bwynt i 0 ar y blaen.

A dyna ddiwedd y sgorio i’r tîm cartref wrth i flaenwyr Bethesda ddod yn ôl i’r gêm a chadw’r gwrthwynebwyr yn dawel dan hanner amser.

Ciciodd Daniel Pritchard gôl gosb yn gynnar yn yr ail hanner ac ymhen 3 munud arall ciciodd Mathew Parry gôl adlam i roi’r ymwelwyr o fewn 2 bwynt i Abergele.

Prin y daeth chwaraewyr Abergele o’u hanner eu hunain drwy gydol yr ail hanner ac roedd y pwysau ar eu llinell gais yn cynyddu o funud i funud. Er i Fethesda fethu sawl cyfle i fynd ar y blaen roedd sgôr yn edrych yn anorfod fel yr a’i hanner yn ei flaen.

Yn dilyn cyfnod o hyrddio dwys ar linell Abergele, yr wythwr, Rhys Williams groesodd am y cais anorfod. Ciciodd Pritchard y trosiad i selio’r fuddugoliaeth haeddiannol.

A game of two halves with both sides taking the opportunity to take advantage of the strong wind blowing across the field.

Yet again, Bethesda were not able to call on a full strength side and some supporters were of the opinion that the big Abergele pack would be too strong for the Howgets.

The home side took full advantage of the wind in the first half and hooker Woods crossed for an easy try when Bethesda fell off some tackles in midfield. The conversion was missed but 4 minutes later Abergele kicked a penalty goal to go ahead by 8 points to 0.

And that proved to be the end of scoring for the home side as the Bethesda forwards worked their way back into the match and managed to keep the home pack quiet until half time.

Daniel Pritchard kicked an early penalty goal for Bethesda and 3 minutes later Mathew Parry dropped a goal bringing the visitors within 2 points of Abergele’s total.

The home players hardly got out of their half in the second period and the pressure on their tryline increased as the half wore on and a score for Bethesda looked inevitable.

Following an intense period of pressure on Abergele’s tryline, Rhys Williams, Bethesda’s No 8 crossed for the inevitable try. Pritchard kicked the conversion to seal a deserved victory.
